The Darjeeling Limited The Darjeeling Limited listen now
Three brothers attempt to re-bond during an exotic train trip through India. Jonathan Crocker speaks to co-writers Wes Anderson and Jason Schwartzman, who also direct and star respectively. The pair talk about the personal nature of the material and their experiences during filming, including re-writing and rehearsing in the total darkness of an Indian blackout.
Hallam Foe Hallam Foe listen now
Hallam Foe (18) is a complex coming of age film staring Jamie Bell ("Billy Elliot"), a young man dealing with the death of his mother in a way that can only be called creepy. As Bell himself tells podcast co-host Chris Tilly from Time Out, Hallam Foe "basically just wants to have sex with his mother". Chris talks to Bell, his co-star Sophia Myles and director David Mackenzie to get to the bottom of why you should want to watch.
13 Hostel II film poster listen now
Chris Tilly talks to Eli Roth, the writer/director of Hostel and Hostel: Part II. Roth is responsible for some of the most imaginative and horrifying tortures ever seen on film. In this sequel to the 2006 surprise hit, Roth continues the story of a world in which backpackers are sold to rich sadists for their unbridled bloody-thirsty pleasures.
film poster 12 Sunshinelisten now
Sunshine takes us 50 years into the future. The sun is failing and a team of astronauts, including Rose Byrne and Cillian Murphy, is Earth's last hope to reignite it. Chris speaks to director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting) about the challenges of making the film and -- slightly more obscurely -- how the different physical landscapes of Britain and the US affect film-making and creativity.
11 Hot Fuzz film poster listen now
Hot Fuzz reunites Nick Frost and Simon Pegg who starred in the instant-classic Shaun of the Dead. This time the pair are police officers in sleepy village where all is not as it seems. It’s an action comedy that you won’t want to miss. Chris Tilly interviews Frost and Pegg exclusively for the podcast. At Vue February 14th.
10 Rocky Balboa film poster listen now
Confounding expectations, Rocky is back for a sixth tilt at the title. Writer/director/star Sylvester Stallone had an uphill battle getting the film made in the face of studio and public incredulity but - like Rocky himself - he overcame the odds and the critics are impressed. Chris tells Steven why he is one of those singing the praises of Rocky Balboa and introduces clips of his interview with Stallone.
09 Happy Feet listen now
Chris Tilly interviews Robin Williams who voices two of the characters in Happy Feet, the story of a young, tapdancing penguin who must go on a perilous journey to prove his worth to his fellow penguins and to himself.
08 Tenacious D In Pick Of Destiny listen now
Jack Black and Kyle Glass use the film Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny to answer the question of how they met to form their band, Tenacious D. Sort of. Nothing is simple with this pair, as Chris Tilly finds out when he interviews Black and Glass during their recent visit to London.
05 The Departed listen now
Saw III is the third film in the horror franchise that began on a shoestring and ended up a box office phenomenon. Working down to the wire, the producers didn’t have a review print for critics to see before the film opens on October 27 so Chris went straight to the source. He talked to the film’s star, Tobin Bell, in London for our exclusive podcast interview.
05 The Departed listen now
In this podcast we listen to Alan Bennett talking to an audience at Vue West End about the adaptation of The History Boys from play to film.
05 The Departed listen now
Chris and Steven talk about Martin Scorsese’s latest underworld film, The Departed. As Chris puts it, “There’s nothing better than watching a Martin Scorsese gangster film.” The director has pulled together a platinum cast, including Jack Nicholson, Leonardo Dicaprio, and Matt Damon, but Chris scores an exclusive interview with the biggest star of them all, our own Ray Winstone (brace yourself for strong language).
04 World Trade Centre listen now
Director Oliver Stone looks at the attacks of 9/11 from the perspective of two Port Authority police officers (played by Nicholas Cage and Michael Pena) who survived 12 hours trapped under the rubble. Chris joins Steven to discuss his impressions of the film and he plays selections from an interview he had with one of the men on whose experience World Trade Center is based.
03 Talladega Nights listen now
Chris and Steven discuss the latest film from the writing partnership of Will Ferrell, who stars, and Adam McKay, director. It’s a fun film that lives up to the expectations built up by the pair’s previous effort, Anchorman. The episode features an insight into the unusual working methods on set; and an hilarious clip from the scene-stealing Sacha Baron Cohen.
02 Harsh Times
In this episode Steven and Chris discuss Harsh Times. The film is directed by David Ayer who is best known as the creator of “Training Day” and the writer of “The Fast and the Furious”. Chris also finds out from Christian Bale what attracted him to the film. In the next episode Steven and Chris talk about Talladega Nights.
01 Miami Vice
Steven and Chris discuss Miami Vice. Director Michael Mann was executive producer of the original TV series. His re-exploration of sultry Miami and the dynamic between Crockett and Tubbs is darker and more violent than the TV series, leaving no room for the breezy shoes- without-socks look everyone remembers from 1984-89.
